Love's Time Bomb

by Baby Rainbow   Oct 25, 2015

Why does love always feel
like a ticking time bomb?
It seems we have all the love we need,
yet here I am still waiting
for the day that you will leave.

Always imagining you raising your voice,
turning your back,
and walking away from me
when I begin to need you the most.

I try not to let my insecurity follow me,
but somehow, it always does;
stuck on me like a shadow.

Sometimes, for me, love feels
like a ticking time bomb,
and I can barely breathe.

But please,
please,
please don't walk away,
because deep in my heart
I really would like you to stay.

Love can feel like a ticking time bomb, can't it? When something is so good, we always seem to live in fear of losing it. Life seems always to demand a balance: something that brings so much joy often has to be paid for in the end. The first stanza displays that. you have "all the love we need" yet you still wait for the inevitable (it seems) explosion of the metaphorical bomb.

Real vulnerability in the second stanza - scared of this person finally losing patience with you and walking away when you really need them - again, that bomb finally exploding.

We are shown in the third that it's your own insecurities that may well be the problem. your insecurity stuck on you "like as shadow" (great line)

The fourth is a claustrophobic stanza - made so by your description of what love feels like for you; not really what it should always! you have all you need (first stanza) and this is what prevents you catching your breath - the thought that this will just go bang in your face leaving you with nothing.

But in the final, desperate stanza, you opt for the dangerous (but right) option. Don't walk away, you beg, because - despite all of the above.......what if that bomb doesn't go off?

Great piece Saffie and all the best
