Fear knocks thrice...

by Mr. Darcy   Oct 25, 2015

A blood curdling scream wakes me
with a terrifying start...

Scratch

Scratch

scratching...

What is that?
My heart doubles its tempo.

Pulsing in rapid sucession
at the muscular walls...

I pray they won't breach.

:

Bang

Bang

Banging...

The dead voiceless
Souls of my mind
want to cry out...

but, I stop them!

:

The door downstairs shakes
like a tree in the wind.

:

Cold sweat slowly drips

Drip

Drips

my center back.
Suddenly!
Cackled laughter hushes abruptly.

Shhhh!

This thin air becomes,
icy pocession

&...

creates a primevil
FEAR...

That:

Makes my neck hair

Bang

Banging - more demanding this time.

It might be urgent, but the cackling suggest

Something else...

I walk down the stairs

Suspiciously...

& through the glazed front door
I see cloaked shadows
of differing heights...

I think, with weapons too?

They bang the door again
& the shock terrifies me...

I gasp & capture
another scream...

The knocking urges me to open it,
though my mind yells at me...

NO, DON'T DO IT!!

Like a moth to a flame I do what I must

    Ah, the suspense!

I could visualize your words, that was pretty cool.

Ha, I loved this! The anticipating and way you formatted it made everything surreal and come alive for the reader. I was expecting a house intruder or maybe that you'd wake up from a nightmare. Great ending though :)

    Mr.Darcy, :))
I am sitting here with this silly grin on my face, and it seems to stay put.
Thank you soooo much for this lovely treat.
I really loved all the sound effects and the art used --- my neck hair standing ALERT :))
and the descending creaking stairs. Hillarious.
    And
I could also relate to this poem not just because of the feeling of fear and darkness but the reaction that you displayed....
The knocking urges me to open it,
though my mind yells at me...

    NO, DON'T DO IT!!

Like a moth to a flame I do what I must

    &...

    Open the door:

Well that is exactly how i handle my fears ... I just have to face it and prove it wrong or else i will never be able to go back to sleep.

Your sense of humour & suspense is awesome. You've got your finger on the pulse.

    Big Fan :))
