Promises To You

by Nic39uy   Oct 29, 2015

Sitting here next to you reminiscing of the past
Recalling how promises were broken and some were kept
And it occurred to me that, since the two years apart
The promises I made, do they still hold true to you?

It took you a moment but you replied
I would wish you honored those promises
But you don't have to if you don't want to
I don't blame you if you don't keep those promises

Nodding my head, I asked you to look to the sky
Make a wish to any star and I'll grab that star
You nonchalantly picking a random star
Placing my hand above the sky following the path

I plucked a star from the heavens
And told you that star was in my hand
She knew I was kidding but played along
Though as I removed my fingers unveiling

A sight, which she had long forgotten
It was the promise ring that I got you
Shocked and speechless at the sight
I asked you when you returned it back to me

You didn't remember but you did return it
So standing there holding a star within my palm
Do you wish to rightfully take what belongs to you
Or shall I let this star back into the heavenly sky?

Glancing at your expression
I removed the chain and slid out the ring
Recalling how you made me promise
To get you a promise ring

Remembering the promise I made with this ring
Was never ever broken in the first place...
A promise of being friends no matter what...
Was being sustained by a bond which is heavily protected

The hardest thing to do is keep a promise when the other doesn’t. Great write
