Another Year Older

by Mark Rawlins   Oct 30, 2015

With aches in my shoulder, my legs and my thighs,
another year older, but still none the wiser.
Some well meaning lines and a kiss on the cheek,
'the happiest of times', 'hope you find what you seek'.
A week-end in Sheppey, or a Pizza Expresso?
A Sloppy Giuseppe and a glass of prosecco.
With aches in my shoulder, my legs and my thighs,
another year older but still none the wiser.
Some new socks and sandals and a bottle of Chateau,
with fifty-four candles on a Black Forest gateau.
'Don't do what I wouldn't' lol my virtual friends.
I shouldn't. I couldn't. So that's where it ends ....
With aches in my shoulder, my legs and my thighs,
another year older, but still none the wiser.
The 'Happy Returns' reluctantly sung
bring unhappy returns to when we were young.
The dreams of tomorrow we had yesterday
are lost in our sorrow and faded away ...
With aches in my shoulder, my legs and my thighs,
another year older, but still none the wiser.
