Dark Imperfections

by Baby Rainbow   Oct 31, 2015

I tried to be guarded,
but you got inside my head
which was seriously messed up,
and all along it feels like you
have been trying to diagnose me.

But what if I was born this way,
with these dark imperfections
that you cannot cure?

Would you stay with me
through all light we cannot see?

Or would you still be the one
to break me down
just like you have done so now?

Dang, this read like song lyrics! Maybe because I have so many melodies in my head I'm trying to write and I've been listening to music for hours straight.

I'm not sure if this makes sense or I can explain it right, but it's like you write simply, with ease, yet the depth such as in these two stanzas:

    "Would you stay with me
through all light we cannot see?"

    - "All the light we cannot see", could be literal light or the future ahead. The road, the path to happiness.

"Or would you still be the one
    to break me down
just like you have done so now?"

    - Oh boy, I hope not.

That question still gets me at the end. I believe we are all born with flaws, sins, for we are imperfect humans in an imperfect world. And yet there's so much self-reflection here. And defiance even? Wondering if you were born with these imperfections for a reason and they can't be explained or just banished or "solved", they are a part of you and how you grow.

Only suggestion would be in the first stanza: "got inside" I feel could be re-worded and impact more. And I feel like "which was seriously messed up" is already implied perhaps? I do like the line about how this person was trying to diagnose you even. Is that the way they treated you then, always looking for a way to "fix you". Thought-provoking indeed.

    Hope you're doing well!
