What if?

by J Nair   Nov 7, 2015

What if you were waiting to pick me up after work?
What if you said let's take a break it's been long since we had an evening out?

What if you remembered the lyrics of the song we once shared?
What if you rested your hand on my shoulder while we went out for a walk?

What if between serious talk, your eyes caught mine and you forgot the rest?
What if between mundane household chores you pulled me onto your lap to rest?

What if you smiled with approval, when I tried on a new dress?
What if you held me around my waist while we watched our child perform on stage?

What if you kissed my nape when I was winding up after a hard day's work?
What if you hugged me tight when you returned home from that long winding trip?

What if you would hold me in your arms while we sat in silence and gazed at stars?
What if you would kiss me on my lips right under a full moon sky?

And yet I wouldn't mind so much if none of this came true,
Cause I would eagerly loose all these fancy talks, for a simple answered prayer.
What if you would quit drinking and return home in your senses?
What if you would stop the abuses, and pull our home together?
What if we all could go back to being a family once again?

Unfortunate homes where people go to bed with just a prayer seeking peace and normalcy. For them life's simple acts of love seems too much to ask for.

So many what if's and to have them answered is what peace is about..the yearning for normalcy and to do the simple things in life makes a bond and its home flourish. A touching write which got me from the first "what if".

Oh wow, this really blew me away. I was caught up in the wish for more romance from your lover. What if he just hugged me once in a while. But, then the last 3 wishes for his to stop his abuse so a family can live happily sent shivers up my spine.

I am shocked. A quality poem in my eyes is one that causes an emotional response. I hope this is fictional. I hope you are well and I hope your family are happy as you deserve to be.

    Take care,

      Thank you Saffie, Mr. Darcy.

It feels good when my emotions are conveyed or understood.

Faith is restored when you see people care.
      Thank you.

Really powerful write, and I like that there are so many what ifs listed, but it is actually not much to ask for, it is really small and simple things that should just be anyway!
