Scrambling free from the chains,
I jump from the mattress
and dive towards the door,
desperately willing it to unlock!
Scraping my fingers against the concrete
until they bleed,
slamming my fists until they bruise and tingle,
desperately trying to break through these walls
that imprison me in this hell!
And I wish I knew then
that it was only a test,
to see if I believed your threats,
that if I dared to run away,
you would send me a world where
the sun would never shine!
As soon as I heard the footsteps
thundering in my direction,
I realised that even when I was untied,
I would never be able to break free
from your chains.
