There's No Quietude

by Everlasting   Nov 19, 2015

There's no quietude
everywhere I turn to
there's chaos

and this chaos has come alive
It is in my mind
It dwells in my heart

I walk through every thought in search of a lamppost
I walk and walk in circles never seeing the light

It's in this boulevard of life
that people hear the heels of time
ticking ticking
like a lady in despair
always running, being chased

Some come to see who this lady
running, ticking, screaming in distress is,
but not many come to see to help

---

I walk and walk in circles,
from one corner to the other,
hearing the ticking and the ticking
hearing the despair

---

sitting near the alleys
I feel the addicts and their pains
sitting in a vehicle
I feel the ones that see the addicts and their disgusts towards them
sitting somewhere else
I also feel those that see the ones that see the addicts, and those who see me seeing the addicts and everyone else...

---

In this boulevard of life,
those who understand and emphasize
are the ones that are illuminated by darkness all around,
but see the light in their hearts...

some who understand and empathize,
hear and feel time being chased,
but can't do anything about it,
Can't be of any help,
Because to understand and empathize,
makes one feel a lot of pain

So forgive me, but at times,
It hurts to just listen to the despair

----

theres no quietude
There's chaos everywhere
even in your words

I'll read this through bit by bit.

First stanza: this screams of a sad desperation, and one that many have felt I would imagine. I certainly have. Chaos everywhere, and no peace to be found anywhere.

So much chaos it has enveloped you - indeed, become a part of you: ".....It is in my mind, it dwells in my heart."

Two stanzas in, and an overriding sense of knowing and sorrow as far as I am concerned. I relate to this.

Next two lines: desperately searching for some light that will show the way, but never finding it.

Some watch on, viewing from the outside, with a sort of morbid interest at those who have lost their way, but not many "come to help". - how true this is.

And that's because, as the rest of the poem illustrates, to truly understand and sympathise with those in this kind of despair, you have to feel that darkness yourself. "those who undertstand.....are the ones that are illuminated by darkness all around."

Excuse my late night, drunk rambling comment. I see this poem's meaning to be simply: to understand pain and darkness, you must feel and know it yourself.

    All the best,
    Ben
