The Bottom

by Bob Shank   Nov 24, 2015

The Bottom

Empty, lonely
a desolate hole
the place we dwell
never grows old

consuming

our lives
dreams
visions
happiness

eaten

decayed
rotten to the core
gone
our very souls

swallowed

never to return
we want to stay
to languish
a continual fight
to survive
climb
rise

and yet
we succumb to

the bottom.........

Even when the bottle is full,
or the vial contains the cure for
"I wanna forget" we can turn the
container upside down, and see
ourselves at "the Bottom"

This poem needs to be highlighted for its unique style in format. Bob has shown in great detail that short words and different format can add so much to a poem. This piece is drenched in sorrow and touches the heart, with great detail about how rock bottom is... A powerful poem indeed!

Life suppose to be about forgive. forget and letting go.it sounds so simple but in reality it is a hard thing to do. I like how you used an a container being flipped around and how we find ourselves at the bottom again.it takes time to work through things but eventually it will get easier.all we can do is try to forget..You did a great job writing this.Be blessed

Another corker, Bob and a dark poem. I love the layout here, the quick, abrupt lines. They seem to add to the damning quality of the piece.
Well written and all the best
