It is a layer cake you offer here. With the first stanza you begin the delicacy by portraying your first and foremost influences. It seems you inherited a great sensitivity from them, yet you are not prepared to expose it to the world - perhaps you perceive it as a weak spot, a vulnerability.
Next stanza appears to flesh out who you are, but in terms of Poole and Gilman (Venus and Mars). The opposing forces that propel you must have come from each of them.
In the third stanza you come into your own, your Mona Lisa avatar who seeks the inner meaning of her heredity.
Finally we see that regardless of which side you look, you are "grounded" in the soil of your forebears. The potato farmers and the forest protectors, all come together to give you your "self."
