From the Heart

by Samuel Ernst   Dec 1, 2015

My thoughts get so loud I can't hear the sound of life setting in,
Is this what it feels like when we start giving in?
How many times can I start again?
I have one life and a million problems,
I spend my days trying to solve them,
I can hardly sleep knowing I can't even solve one,
If I have any sanity left it isn't much,
I feel like I may lost my touch,
I no longer like myself and I treat love like it's just a crutch,
These lines are not sharp,
And I know someone may rip them apart,
Just know that these lines are from the heart.

Very raw and honest. I particularly love the first line "My thoughts get so loud I can't hear the sound of life setting in". I feel like, as poets one of our roles it to find new ways to say things that are said so much they lose meaning. We break cliched phrases and bring back meaning. I feel like your first line did just that.
