The Colors Of Humanity

by Bob Shank   Dec 3, 2015

The Colors of Humanity

Manacles suppress a beautiful mind
decayed by the stench of putrid bitterness
created long before Mr. Whitney
made you expendable

yet you loathe me
despite my relation to Harriet

uncle Tom was never relevant
nor did his cabin provide shelter
unto your bitterness
its wood burned food for thought

could one become a christian
to be born again
and return as an abolitionist
the absurdity of it astounds me

but chains will always bind us together
regardless of our ancestry

linked through the color of love
red hues splashed in anger
dipped in disdain
tainted by the past
we live to paint
the pictures shadows cast......

    Bob,
What a beautiful read. We all come in different kinds and should accept each other as we are but as a society unfortunately we don't. Very inspirational.

    Take care, Em

I have to agree with Andrea more should read this and I'm certainly glad I have. Life comes in so many different colors and to me that is the beauty of it. We are all unique in our own way.Sadly looking at the ongoing trend I am afraid it will get woerse. This piece is an inspiration with a great message.

This is a poem that many should read, especially with the times we are experiencing.

The message is very powerful, a true inspirational and yet sad piece.

I've always admired your format style. It flows and reads smoothly, drawing the reader in from start to finish.

I love how colors is used troughout as a metaphore base.. How I see it viewed..

Your ending lines says it all and is a powerful ending for the message...

    "tainted by the past
    we live to paint
    the pictures shadows cast......"

well written and well expressed. Very nice!
