Between Sunrise And Sunset

by Baby Rainbow   Dec 13, 2015

Morning Monster wakes you up,
as he washes all over your face
and tries to enter your mouth,
knowing I am not allowed to bite.

Hearing voices chanting
"you have to show us that you want it
or else you can't go to the park!"

I begin to wonder as I look back,
was there ever only just the two of us,
or was I holding onto those memories
in hope that I would never uncover this truth
of a million more monsters like you?

I was beginning to understand the old ways,
knowing exactly what you wanted
and how to play your games,
but the other evil monsters
soon took over everything,
there was no limit to the things they did.

Before sunrise,
I was all yours,
all that you had -
wrapped around your finger.

But by sunset,
you had traded me in,
set me up to be heinously violated.

Before sunset,
I was terrified of being caged by you,
after years of you telling me lies,

But by sunrise,
I'd be running back to you,
begging you to take me back.

And inside my head I was thanking you
for punishing me in all the humane ways,
that the other monsters never did.
