Unshielded

I admit I feel alone,
pondering the right thing to do
when you find somebody
who wants to help you
step out of the darkness
and step into the sun.

Everyone is saying
that my journey is impossible
if there's no one there beside me,

but the girl inside,
she has lost her way,
and the poison of the past
has made her scared to try again -
determined to be hurt no more.

So what about the person
who tries to show you
that when love lights up the dark
and you both are satisfied,
that you can then begin
to unshield that fearless heart
that can still belong to you.
