Dead Winter

by Maple Tree   Jan 13, 2016

Soft,

snowfall -

Blankets my thoughts.

Living outside a hell I've dwelt
within for so long,
It becomes more
and more
transparent.

To become a dweller of anguish
can destroy a soul,
especially when dead winter
whispers upon my doorstep.

I hear demons gritting their teeth
slicing my emotions so thin,
that I myself am unaware
of the madness that sows
such sorrow.

I've burrowed this decay
that shadow masks my smile,
another winter-
drowning in chains
that I placed upon
my very own wrists....

This dark poem is brilliant Maple Tree!
Such clever wording and a great descriptive imagery that paints a picture of such sorrow and sadness.

I love reading your verses. My favorites together. Snow and darkness. Love the imagery you have created. Brings such chilling pictures to the minds eye.

    Andrea,

This really does have a dark feel to it and it is written exquisitely. Your use of alliteration in this piece is marvellous - just right - not overdone and never forced.

".....of the madness that sows such sorrow"

This just skates of the tongue beautifully.

Well done and all the very best,
    Ben
