My Christmas Angel

by Baby Rainbow   Jan 16, 2016

Almost six years ago
our souls entwined,
and you breathed life
into my broken heart.

I took a little chance,
hoping I would never do you wrong,
even though I knew
I wouldn't always get it right,
but that's okay,
we have taught each other
along the way.

Sitting here with you now,
your weak body in front of me,
I'm wishing on a wishbone for a cheat
that would take all of your pain away.

I wish I could make it better,
trying to understand your language
now more than ever.
Praying that the last forty eight hours
will not be the last hours
we ever spend together.

But I trust your animal instinct,
to let me know when it is time,
time to let you go.

So I take your paw in my hand,
gently squeezing it with love,
hoping Mother Nature
heals your broken wings,
and gifts my Christmas Angel
with just a little more time to live.

Pets are really one of a kind who eases our moments. They don't speak back, argue, demand or leave you and disappear and for this type of bond we always feel when they are in pain...this reminds me of my angel...touching write..
