Selfless Love

by Baby Rainbow   Feb 7, 2016

It was information overload
when the vet first broke
the inevitable news about your future;
my heart was crushed like ice.

I thought "pretty please be wrong,
for we are always together,
never apart,
your future was not meant for you to go,
but for you to stay in my arms!"

But in the dreams of unreality,
I found my selfishness
and traded it for bravery.

For inside the meaning of love,
is loyalty and trust,
and to do what is best for you,
not for me,
is a must!

There is a subtle rhyme scheme within this write which makes the poem smooth to read and at the same time felt. I had to re-read it again the second stanza as it did not flow but it did.

^^Its a dreaded moment for all of us who have to face the "letting go" phase. at first we are too stubborn to allow it and yes it is out of selfishness but when you see someone-pet or human suffer the brave thing to do is let go. Its easier said then done. Nicely penned.
