"Lovesick swan"

This gave me instant insight as to the content of this poem because, aside from the obvious wording (lovesick) swans mate for life normally, I believe, so the idea of losing the one you love is heightened by this comparison. It suggests that you, too, had similar expectations for a relationship to last.
What struck me next about this piece is that "swan" is not mentioned again until the end of the piece - it is purely meant for the comparison to be drawn by the reader which I like.
Music is used as the backdrop to this piece and it certainly can bring memories flooding back at a whim (wanted or unwanted) - a simple chord can bring a tidal wave of emotions.
That you never mention this person in a negative fashion is telling, I think.

"Your favourite music still comforts my lonely heart"

Quite the reverse, you still take comfort from their memory, so here I start thinking their loss was forced - death perhaps.

"But your fate had other plans..."

This, for me at least, confirms that this is a forced separation (death or otherwise) and makes the piece that much more powerful.

Seeing animals that mate for life grieving and often searching for their missing partner is truly heart breaking and that's why the comparison is so powerful here.
