A Daytime Job:

by Scott Cole   Feb 17, 2016

From the minute im born
I earn my flames,
Those golden rays
Running through my veins.

Im center of attention
My hot bod of plasma,
One bright star
Thats loved by NASA.

Im an early riser
Im up before all,
Drinking my mountain dew
Through a flower stalk.

I get on my train
And head up town,
My office building
Thats big and round.

I clock in at sunrise
Make my twilight,
To put bread on the table
And keep on the lights.

Crank up my spaceship
Throw it in drive,
Step on the gas
And look alive.

Dodge all the traffic
The clouds and the weather,
That get in my way
On my little endeavor.

For time is a drag
And tough to work for,
Always on your back
Pushing you more.

To keep up the steam
Run right on time,
Make all my stops
For not even a dime.

Fill all the holes
Plug all the cracks,
With a beam of sunshine
As i make my track.

Touch all the flowers
They need me most,
That damp night air
Dries out their throats.

Warm up the birdbaths
For the whole neighborhood,
Wake up those sleepy eyes
And knock on wood.

I warm up those faces
Put on a smile,
Grow all that grass
Mile after mile.

Onto the Horizon
My stopping point,
My job is done
From your viewpoint.

I pull to a stop
Cool my heels,
Jump from my seat
Grab a quick meal.

Count my blessings
Say with a smile,
Why i love my job
And go that extra mile.

A Spiritual lift
A daily gift,
A morning blessing
A daytime shift.

Its all in a job
That which is done,
All setteled for money
Except the job of the Sun.
