Memories

by Brenda   Feb 18, 2016

I mourn our time
together
knowing you won't
remember it...
I mourn the years
we've spent
sharing
knowing they won't
be part of
your life now...
I hate this passenger
of fog
that's slowly taking over,
robbing you of our
memories
leaving you confused,
angry, scared....
I cherish every moment
I have with you
you are my husband,
my lover,
my best-friend...
I'm with you
on this journey
of uncertainty,
holding your hand,
steadying your thoughts,
easing your fears...
I will carry
our memories,
I will share our past
with you
over and over again
and I will never
stop loving you...

Dementia, is it I guess the fog you mentioned.

It's so good to know that you are standing firmly by his side.
And as long as you are there with him, he won't give up.
    You are his hope.

L, yes it is about dementia. It was actually inspired by a lady I work with, her husband is going through this. It's always something in your head of it happening to you and your love one. Thank you L! Hugs!

Brenda, I thought i would go through your poems to see if I had missed Any so here I am..

This is so delicate and personal. It is also very sad and all too relatable as my step dad has Alzheimer's and barely remembers me which is upsetting but for it to happen to our soul mate, I couldn't imagine how you feel though all we can do it be their memory and help them remember on the good days and be there for them on the bad ones.

    All the best, Em

Awwww, thanks Em. This was written for a lovely lady I work with and her husband has Alzheimers. It's so sad.

A really lovely poem. Loving someone even after it hurt - that's what true love is, right?
Such softness in each line, and I like its layout.
    Nice.

    This gets me Brenda...

I've found that writing can be such a release and yet our poems are still there for us..reminding us of pain and loss...this touched me. Thank you for sharing your heart through words with us

Thank you so much! Writing gives us that outlet to express the good and bad and all the in between of our lives. I think I'd lose my mind if I couldn't get all that out.
