How I Loved You

by Avrii Monrielle   Feb 18, 2016

I loved you.

I loved you like there was no tomorrow.

I loved you like there was no tomorrow
because tomorrow feels worthless
when you are not in it.

I loved you even though you brought me heartbreak.

I loved you, my best friend.

I loved you even though you didn't love me back.

I loved you even though you weren't true.

I loved you much more than myself,
and though I wish I couldn't love you,
my heart loved you
when everyone begged me
to stop.

You destroyed me.

You were worse than alcohol.

You were the reason for me crying in the wee
hours of the night.

You were the reason for jealousy from other people,
and our own.

I wish I could have
loved you
correctly,
I wish
things hadn't
gone wrong.

You were my worst heartbreak,
I wish I could have had you
endlessly
but you came to an end
years ago
and yet I still swear
it's unfair..!

    Hello Avrii,

This poem really does scream a terribly sad and desperate scenario from the writer's point of view.
Love can be wonderful - truly. But life seems always to demand a balance and when something that joyous goes wrong, it stands to reason that it will do so in an equally powerful (but opposite ) way and leave you entirely miserable.
A blunt and powerful poem, not least for its pure honesty.

    All the very best,
    Ben
