Addiction

by Michael   Apr 2, 2016

Your heartache, your affliction
that we shared.
The symptoms of your sickness
both unprepared.

The slave you became
by this alluring temptation.
Your hand slipped from mine
into a desolate, depravation!

Guilt and shame, bled
you dry, no water to
aid your arid time
so damn helpless was I.
Your expression, a shamefaced
goodbye.

All alone, with a compulsive infection
no prescription to help
your pain of self infliction

Gripped in the hands of an alien fate
A medley of feelings left upon my plate.
Consumed with a bitter taste
choking and retching,
on waste.

I crave your destination is at peace
and you are somewhere at ease.
The attraction struck and forced
to its knees!

From wherever, from then until now
I am here for you , this I vow.
My palms have nourished overtime
your hand I will hold tight, back in mine.

If you can reach me
I will wait.
I'm here for you, and
together a new chapter,
we will create.

    Hi Michael,

Great structure and rhyme which makes the piece flow smoothly.

It's frustrating to be held at arms length.

    Hello Michael,

A well written poem. I like the format being held by a sturdy 6 line pivot.

Being held at arms length and only able to be a supportive observer must be frustration. Your devotion and patience will pay dividends.

    Well done,

    Michael
