Roll the Bones

by Louis A Ranero   May 1, 2016

Approach the arch encircled within the stone array
Unlock the ancient gate which keeps the night at bay
Beseech the muse enshrouded in her dark and sombre tones
Turn that last card over, take and roll the bones
As you kneel whisper of those things you most desire
Take what you most cherish and cast it in the pyre
Listen to the lyric that she solemnly intones
Turn that last card over, take and roll the bones
Now lie upon her altar as cold as the abyss
Keep that hallowed promise and seal it with a kiss
Entreat the hungry gods with your blood upon the stones
Turn that last card over, take and roll the bones
And in those final moments you will come to realize
All that you have sought to know she has told you with her eyes
For in that gathering darkness amidst echoes of realms unknown
You've turned that last card over, taken and rolled the bones

A deep, dark enthralling write. You kept the flow and rhythm great throughout.
