Twice shy

by The Po whet   May 27, 2016

You remind me of the sly merchant ;
who boasted of selling a spear
that could penetrate anything
and a shield that was impenetrable.
...you gave a promise
that held no waters.
I was the bridge you used
across the waters of the raging floods,
and when the floods receded
you burnt the bridge
as though the floods were ephemeral.
I was the ladder you used to
climb through the window
to your "foggy " salvation,
then quickly kicked me down
forgetting you'll need me
on your way down
after realizing your salvation
was yet but a mirage.
All that coruscates ain't gold,
yet my curiosity towards
your peculiarity
proved fetal
as it did to the feline
in the tales foretold.
No good deed ever goes unpunished
...I should've known so.
I crunch at my humble pie,
lick my bitter wounds
and count my losses
in proclivity and wasted time.
...twice shy
it's time to start a new.

Love how you write Moa. So sad, serene and beautiful. It's hard to love someone that doesn't love us back but more often than now we do.

    Take care, Em
