Free From Religion

by Courtney   Jun 28, 2016

Will my parents hate me?
Because I am not of their faith?
My eyes have been open,
But to them I am a disgrace.

Mormon is what their called,
And I am finally free.
No longer chained to sexist belief,
I can finally breath.

That religion ruined me,
Made my husband want to leave for two years.
But was sent home because of "immortality."
Feeding him nothing but fears.

If they believe in family,
Husband and wife should be the head.
Not one over the other,
Because they are wed.

I'm not less then you,
Nor you more then I.
We both go to heaven or hell,
Not separated when we die.

So mother and father I'm sorry,
I'm finally living and free.
You've taught me well in most,
But Mormon is not me.

Courtney, as always your writes are open and from the heart. Religion is a tough one. You are raised to believe certain beliefs, beliefs your parents have taught you and that they believe too. Too break away from that can cause a lot of chaos and problems with your relationship with your folks. I guess as a parent of adult children I've had to let them make their own choices as they've gotten older. It may not be what I want but it's not my decision. You are very brave breaking away and living your life as you are most comfortable with. It's no easy choice. Hugs to you-Brenda
