Under the Chandelier

by stormingdance (Lessa)   Jun 29, 2016

I stand here frozen in your dream
But I don't understand how you could think I belong
Because I am standing here in sharp contrast to your imagery
And don't tell me you can see right through me
as though I were standing naked before you
Because you shroud me in your perceptions
and ideas of who you think I should be
This cloak of your deception,
it's so heavy I fear I might drown in the waters of your delusions
But I won't be weighed down by your judgments.
I'll hang your thoughts under the chandelier
Where I'll leave you alone to chase all your fears.

    Hello Jessica

Being judged by someone or having someone perceive us in a certain way is a heavy weight to carry around our necks.
What if we don't measure up? What if we disappoint them?
I think, ultimately, we have to be positive about ourselves before others have the right to be positive about us or there is always that danger that more pressure is simply being applied to someone who is already struggling to find themselves.

A great piece that got me thinking.
