Love, When It Lingers

I might not see you,
nor ever feel you,
but I detect your presence here.
You linger softly,
though touching nothing,
yet changing every thing, my dear.

I emote strongly,
with hopes you're with me,
for death transcends our senses, Love.
What keeps me living
-a disguised undead?
A dream: I'll join you up above.

Yet if that's untrue?
I linger living
cherishing each moment given:
Every hug, each talk,
your bright, warm smile.
Each one missed is unforgiven.

It hurts to know
you're in my heart
and once I'm gone you will be "dead".
I know the truth,
it pains me (so)...
I'll keep you safe inside my head.

Inside my head, well,
you are kept alive.
Souls at a romantic junction.
A free, but frozen,
fragile memory
that needs only love to function.

I believe in ghosts,
though not until you
... something one must experience
not just with your eyes,
but see with your heart;
your eyes can try but they won't sense.

I can promise you
each moment persists,
playing like a reel in my head,
but every last frame
-each image I see-
reminds me you are gone instead.
