Libel

by Timothy   Jul 10, 2016

A hunch awoke my silent night
as I swept up the remains of
a vision so splendid.

My door handle danced and let
out a sexy squeak that nostalgia knew
I'd missed very much.

The door creaked open and 7
individuals stood dressed in Blackpool chauvinism, seething
with rage and gurgling

empty words which missed the point and missed the point and missed the point.

They refused to leave the door ajar.

Frothing at the mouths, they charged
inside, bursting BAs bulging at the seams
And scouting for shy

skeletons under my bed. One of
the 7 strapped a rotting wooden twig
to my nose, adding

more twigs as local punters drooled
in the wings. Battle-hardened by years
of incorrigible flirt, 3

yodelled a strange dialect and finger
wagged me into next Saturday evening. I
repeated Satan's words but
the point was missed

and my photo left privacy sulking
by the Tiffany glow, perched next to
a Cheshire whose teeth

spelled out last night's incriminatory extravaganza.
Fooled by door-knobbing promises, I gawped
at 2 who now

metamorphosed into a set of butchered
limbs, pickled and preserved, waiting to trip
up local outsiders with a taste for midnight gallivanting.

The final individual dodged the point, which slept silently at the back of the room, and slithered into my bed.

'We are justice. We are the people's law and the people have spoken', She whispered, picking at years of great achievement with her already bitten fingernails.

The point was irrelevant. The good natured people told me so.

Although, in the time frame of the work, your "point" comes too early to share with the reader, it's consequences are wonderfully devastating.

The repeated pleas to the point perfectly reflect the ineffectual cries of the misunderstood. The weight of perception bastardizes Thomas Jefferson's adage: What I think drowns out what you meant to the contrary.

My fantasy of interpretation: I get an impression the "point" was made to a significant other at the wrong time and context and was taken horribly awry. Her friends are now invading your public space with accusations and burning tar.

This "final individual" is a puzzle. Obviously she is insecure and tries to work against your own insecurities ("picking at years of great achievement with her already bitten fingernails"). However, is she the recipient of the point or a "friend" seeking to finalize the problem by causing betrayal?

This is extremely interesting..I'm not sure if I'd class it as a poem or lyrics or...perhaps something else but, It completely intrigued me so...I'm nominating it in the hope that the judges will do a much better job on analysing it!

Guilty, can't quiet understand the meaning of the poem. No pun intended, but I think I missed the point...

Yet the poem caught my attention since the beginning. I like the way you kept the Narative going
