A smile

by Nil   Jul 23, 2016

I smiled.
As the guard smiled back faintly
Marching in formation
Our nationalities disappeared as
My eyes reflected the warmth of
The rain falling- drenching my being
As I set my umbrella down
In a sea of solemness and colors
To capture a moment in time
With a stranger
So many strangers
Enticed with my differences
Their stares of wonderment
Etched inside my head
So welcoming
I miss it
Their glances and shy smiles

Now they are memories
I'll cherish for now
Their home calling to me
Wanting me to call it my own

Speaking in rhymes
Because the cameras watch everything
To them I must have looked silly
Taking selfies with unknown people
With the simple connection
We are human and different
The language barrier blaring
But a smile says what I could not

And that's what I was hoping for.
A smile back.

I felt like this poem was amazing, thanks for sharing 5/5.

I felt this way about this poem because of the hooks throughout, emotion provoking content in an existential sense, and vivid scenery woven in very well.
