Grown Ups

by Kips2.0   Aug 4, 2016

We were so young,
with our minds so clear and simple,
ever so fascinated by the simplicity of life.

But now we are grown ups,
stacked with responsibilities
and our minds could hardly rest
for short moments before
the turbulence of what to do
with our times hits us.

We did not do much
and did not even expect much from each other;
to just sit down and laugh with each other,
with eyes wide opened,
in awe of the way we laughed,
sufficed!

But now we are grown ups,
totally dazed and dazzled
with various crazy experiences
that have pulled the worst out of us
and made us a little more self-imposed,
having too much expectations of others,
and not satisfied with the simplest things
that once made our young memories
worth their while.

Awww, this just crumpled my heart, so true, how I wish I never have grown up...but no, that cannot be. Beautiful, touching poem.

I really liked this a lot, brought back a lot of good memories when you were a kid and didn't have all the worries that wear you down as an adult. I try to tell my adult kids with kids of their own to take those moments and just enjoy them-they are far too fleeting. I find I'm at an age now where I can enjoy myself more and laugh and be silly-just to be, nothing more. Well done-

Thanks! For the comment. If only I could turn back the hands of time. I miss those moments too, now it's hard to even have time for yourself. The busyness changes everything about you, including your mood!

What a gem. Makes me think of the quote "I would rather be a child with skimmed knees than an adult with a broken heart" or something like that because kids (more or less) have no responsibility. I feel in school we should be taught about life properly.

    All the best, Em

Well, these life lessons should begin at home with the family, with the parents. I am looking forward to the day when I have my own family. I want to teach my children the way of pure love!

To be happy, we must embrace our inner child. Thanks for sharing.
