Can the Earth be a Pan?

by Everlasting   Aug 19, 2016

Upon my wake, the sun became a light;
too bright, like fire just fueling a stove,
and sizzling up, the soils that I call my home.
I am a woman born on planet Earth,
where I have live has been too humid hot,
yet not as hot to where I'd simply burn,
and then become like ashes or like coal.
Though there have been a few occasions when,
it feels as if I'm resting on a pan
while everything is being cooked so fast
at temperatures that are medium high,
but for the most that are extremely low,
while everything just cooks so slow, and so...
Could it be that the Sun is cooking us?

    This is definitely a unique poem with a nice metaphor throughout - one that I've not thought to compare the Earth to as well. Perhaps our whole solar system is in the pressure cooker, for all we known it could be! I enjoyed reading this piece, well done.

    Hello,

    A poem with simile is one that will be like rainbow arcing high in the sky - beautiful and memorable.

    Upon my wake, the sun became a light;
    too bright, like fire just fueling a stove,
    and sizzling up, the soils that I call my home.

    I see the sun being an essential element of your life. I like the internal rhyme too, in light and bright and stove and home.

    I am a woman born on planet Earth,
    where I have live has been too humid hot,
    yet not as hot to where I'd simply burn,
    and then become like ashes or like coal.

    In the 2nd line here - there seems to be a stumbling in the wording - maybe you could change it to: where my life has been too humid hot? The extending sun/ fire simile works well here.

    The concluding section is well described - to me it is like time; time spent on the Earth. At times our meals in the pan simmer and can take an age, whilst at other times, they cook, like in a frying pan too quickly and my eggs burn. But hey, I like them crispy!

    Well done, a unique poem, well thought out.

    Take care and all the best.

    Michael
