What About the Times it's Him

by Someone Invisible   Aug 29, 2016

They put these quotes on the internet
about boyfriends breaking girlfriend's hearts
and the girls cry their eyes out and begin to regret
then have to wipe their eyes to save their face.

But they never talk about the other times
when it's not the boy you see at school
that commits the heart-rending crimes
but the man you should see you at home.

The first one you're supposed to fall in love with
but then, you can't love whats not there
so I guess it's safe to say that that's a myth
And we have to push past the pain and move on.

The guy who's supposed to pick us up when we fall
Dust off our knees and tell us to try again
Hes supposed to lift us up when we aren't feeling tall
but no one talks about him though do they?

About when Sometimes he's why we flinch when you move too fast
And why we are wary of the supposed 'nice' guys at school.
why we have relationships fears we can't see past,
because if your daddy can't love you then who will

When raise hands means blue skin
and alcohol means he'll fly into a rage
so you find you're stuck in this game you can't win,
a controller in your hand but is not plugged in

When you're raised to believe that your only worth
Is that at the buckle end of the belt in his hands
When your childhood was hell on earth
And you dont kniw how to move on from it.

Its just that while sometimes i know he's of a rare breed
I get scared and wary when you want to come up to me
And make me laugh and smile instead of bleed
So please just be patient with me while I learn.

So very true. The man you should be looking up to and should be your role model on what you should be seeking in a potential mate shouldn't be the one who makes you cry and breaks your heart and a abuses you. He should be your protector. You did a really awesome write putting this into words. Your dad should be your world not the one destroying it for future relationships. Well done-
