Age of Humans

by Larry Chamberlin   Aug 31, 2016

Now at the twilight of human existence
world scientists have come to an agreement
that the ages of the world must be amended
to include the Terra-deforming by man

Anthropocene they call it with irony
since the naming itself comes at its end
with thousands of species made extinct,
land surface given over to food production,
more habitations than all the caves in the world,
and the earth's own blood oiling the ocean

Man has brought the power of the sun itself
to touch the surfuace and kill his fellows
while innumerable deaths lay in shame
enshrouded at the foot of civilized leaders,
while the earth cures this infection in heat
cauterizing human scourge in greenhouse gas.

Man has taken the power to name all -
animals, plants, planets and ages;
Anthropocene it will be called fittingly:
it is worded in a dead language.

Larry. I always look forward to reading your work because its always wise, full of inspiration and images that are so vivid you could be there yourself when reading (if only I could read with my eyes close I would be)

This here gave me Goosebumps because it was so powerful. Ironic isn't it that it is a word in the dead language when that's what we are doing to this earth, destroying it.

    All the best, Em
