Can You Hear Me?

Can You Hear Me?

Do you know when I
am thinking of you?
When I look up and the sky is
so vibrant and blue.

When I feel so lost
And don't know what to do,
I look up at the sky
While talking to you

Fifteen years it's been
Since I watched you slowly die
Very seldom do I allow
Myself to even begin to cry.

Time it seemed to simply fly by.
The extent of the tragedy I see
As time brings me closer
to being the age that you died.

Can you hear me Dad
From where you are?
Are you dancing
High above the stars?

Are you looking down
on me and little Mar?
Have I risen above
your high set bar?

Sometimes my heart aches
And you feel so far.
And other times I know
Exactly where you are.

But every time I hear the coo
Of a gentle morning dove,
I think about that day
I lost my first love.

Wonderful write-as Em says, very relatable to a lot of us on this site. I too lost my Dad and it's been a lifetime of missing him. You did a really good job of expressing your sadness and yearning. Well done-

Kara, this is such a sad yet relatable piece for many.
The emotion I feel is still raw even after 15 years. Grief never leaves us but does get somewhat easier to manage.

    Hugs, Em
