City of Stone

by stormingdance (Lessa)   Sep 8, 2016

Here I am surrounded
by hallowed crowds
Yet I'm left here
hollowed & broken
A King no more for,
like my heart, this city
has turned to stone
buried within these walls
of isolation.

Written in collaboration with a friend of 15+ years. Coincidentally we were both contemplating writing about a city of stone. His idea was that the poem also be about a king. I wrote the above poem based on his lines: "These hollow crowds of stone bury my heart alone."
