How to save a life

by TheDarkCloudBehindthePoet   Sep 8, 2016

This poem is for a great friend of mine who is going through a tough time. I just had this on my heart and need to get it off.

An old saying goes, "The most massive characters are seared with scars",
No one knows this more than I,
I have been carved up and served over and over again with an apple in my mouth,
Roasting on an open fire so big it caught the eye of Ifrit,

My arms and legs have been torn to shreds,
My wrists crying red to my finger tips,
Praying that if my eyes see the tears I'll make it stop,
But that's the beauty of it all,

All those lonely mornings and cold nights,
The self punishment we put ourselves through,
Our mind turns into a prison rather than a sanctuary,
but we have to experience loss of self in order to find who we really are,

No one knows how long it will take,
I was lost for years and I'm still trying to really find my purpose,
but along the way to moksha, my knowledge and strength grows stronger than Heracles during his 12 labors,

If not for my trials I wouldn't have been able to help so many people,
I stopped making it all about me and used my past experiences to help others who are currently going through the same things I did,
and a lot of the time they still help me without knowing it,

So embrace the pain and the loneliness and the fear you give people when they look at you,
It may seem like a negative but it really isn't,
because your energy is just too great for them to handle,
but you are teaching them so much that you just might save their life.
