Piece of You

by Sophie Leblanc   Oct 6, 2016

Remember, remember in grade five
Smiling and carefree, you arrived
The jokes you said, the games you played
The tattered cards you swore you'd trade

Remember, remember the things you did
Like playing dodge ball as a kid
Watching movies till late at night
The flare of youth burning bright

Remember, remember your group of friends
Who despite fights, would make amends
Who made you laugh, made you cry
And who now before you bid goodbye

Remember, remember the life in you,
The spark in your eye, the twinkle of blue
The words you spoke, the dreams you had
The music you'd listen when things were bad

Remember, remember how much we care
How much we wish you were still there
How hard it is to acknowledge you're gone
And how we hope you have moved on

Goodbye, adieu, rest in peace
The flame of love shall never cease
The dawn shall break, the day anew
But in us was left a piece of you.

Hello Sophie and a warm welcome to the site.

A wistful and moving piece of honest poetry here that is well written and smoothly rhymed.
Moving on from these kinds of things is never easy and it never really goes away completely; we just have to cling to the good memories that are left to us and realise how lucky we are to have them.

    Take care and keep writing,

    Ben
