A very warm welcome to the site, Denise, and may I just say what a wonderful first post this is from you.
I love the way you have set this out and the nostalgia that's ripe throughout; thoroughly effective.

    Well done and keep writing,

    Ben

Hello. I must first say welcome and apologise because I read this twice earlier and had many thoughts swirling around in my head about it but couldn't write them down fast enough and I made a mental note to come back and forgot (memory like a sieve) so I'm glad Bens comment reminded me.

Anyway to the poem, its great and has a lot of thought put into it. Sometimes memories are best as a memory but other times they need to resurface and I feel that all of them make us the person we are today whether good or bad.

Thanks Em for the welcome and also for your comment on my poem and you're right sometimes memories need to be shared and not just kept inside. We all have memories like you said rather good or bad they are certainly a part of us and help make us who we are.
      Thanks again

    Hi Denise,
Welcome to the site...as I read your piece I just lowered my shoulder and lowered my eyelids. As if something pulled inside me... as if I'm the one talking here...as if I'm the owner of this piece...I think I just need my pillow and blanky to hug me . .hmmmn nice piece I can relate to this...

So here I sit and think
    On memories of yesterday

    Wishing for those days again
For smiles, for voices, for hugs

But knowing there will never be
    The yesterdays we shared

But still I'm sitting and thinking
And feeling some kind of way

    (Feelin this way right now)

Memories speak louder than presence. Indeed a great way to arrive. Keep thinking and don't stop inking!
On a trance now, to my childhood.

That feeling of nostalgia is of utmost importance to man. it aids him to think of communion and love. I love your simple but captivating diction.
