Crepuscule

by Mahal Ko Kuya Ko   Nov 8, 2016

Dusky and shadowy flowers
thrive in the twilight of shuttered lakes.
Forget-me-nots on the river banks
embroidered with starlit dews
and frozen precipitations
swallow all of my words
everytime the sun sets...

It's still dark in here...
But reveries still camp
on my avenues...
There are street signs and graffiti,
and every abandoned road
leads me to your forgotten embraces.

I found your letter yesterday,
the ink is washed by strange tides,
it is written in maple leaves
and adorned by bluebells...
It doesn't look poetic at all,
but it makes me feel something.

I miss the times
you make rooms
for all my unfinished metaphors...

The footbridges we cross every 7:40 AM,
riding a jeepney going to school,
getting stuck in traffic jams...
How can I forget about those things?
They are the soul of my being...

I fell in love with your lilac skies
the way I did with those
fields of violets...

Now, I am stumbling upon
these unknown fragments
of my thoughts --
a myriad of hopeless dandelions,
poisonous dreams,
and the memories of you

walking away from me.

It's still dark in here...

But reveries still camp
on my avenues.

I do hope we get some more writings from you soon. This piece is absolutely stunning, heartbreaking and it really felt personal, in terms of my own life and falling in love, an endless pit of hopelessness. You speak of these memories so fondly and in the end, those memories walk away without you. So sad, poignant, and brilliant.

Look forward to reading more from you!

My...my I really do wish I can write like you!! Your words simply flow and letting the imagery to flow too along by the side. There is so many memorable lines and verses its hard to pick out just one.

    Dusky and shadowy flowers
thrive in the twilight of shuttered lakes.
    Forget-me-nots on the river banks
    embroidered with starlit dews
    and frozen precipitations
    swallow all of my words
    everytime the sun sets...

^^I like this opening. It sets the mood and creates a sort of melancholy tone filled with memories.

    It's still dark in here...
    But reveries still camp
    on my avenues...

^^I like the use of the word camp here because it
shows along the lighted path and open space memories cannot be suppressed.

    I miss the times
    you make rooms
    for all my unfinished metaphors...

^^Now this is so poetic and accommodating. Sounds
like this person knows rather understands your feelings and knows you inside out!

    But reveries still camp
    on my avenues.

I also like the way you ended the poem with these lines. It means that wherever it is you go or are in the very memories lights up your darkened space/world. Beautifully penned!!
