Souls Escaping

by deeplydesturbed   Nov 16, 2016

Touching the ground in a strange yet familiar place
Needing to get some fresh air in my stale lungs
Ready to reconnect with a soul I once thought lost in darkness
Instead of running from this battlefield of life
I'm giving myself a chance to stay and fight
With a deep breath in and a reassuring nod
I step off the plane
After gathering bags I begin the route to a newfound freedom

The morning view brings an emotion I have almost forgotten
Happiness, bliss, joy
It brings a small curve up to my normally firm lips
A smile at long last
My anxiety seems to be suppressed

As the early morning fog rolls over the distant mountains
I watch the city start to spring to life
The red sun rising, the orange glow bouncing
The colours are at play

I feel the darkness pushing itself to a small corner of my mind
Resisting every urge I have to let it take over again
The peace is overwhelming after years of disturbance

With each day, each holy temple and each peaceful garden I see
I feel myself finally living
Letting myself feel free without worry
No fear or anxiety, no wondering if it'll be my last day
The darkness is kept in place as my mind fills with light

Knowing I will once again be returning to a place I live
I take in as much as I can
I know I will need it all to face the demons I have left behind
The ones I will need to battle with
I am gaining strength and stability
Something I have never known

I am surrounded by a new culture
A place where they have a certain respect for life
A place where there is so much noise
Yet I am overcome in a certain silence

For the first time I am in complete control of my own mind, body and soul.

    Hello Naomi,

A sad composition but have a power punch ending

I am surrounded by a new culture
A place where they have a certain respect for life
A place where there is so much noise
Yet I am overcome in a certain silence

For the first time I am in complete control of my own mind, body and soul.

    Brilliant. .. I liked it..

Naomi though this is longer than usual for you it kept me interested as some can be long but go off track (if that makes sense) so firstly well done on that. You have everything in this, relatability, emotion and some very good description.

1: I liked this opening because you have optimism in this where once you weren't strong enough but now you are stepping off the plane into familiar territory its different because you are much stronger than before.

2: I love this because its very optimistic and you deserve only happiness, so smile away and keep the anxiety at bay.

3: Absolutely love the imagery, lovely.

4: Again, lovely imagery of the darkness being in the corner of your mind but its a shame it doesn't stay there for good instead of rearing its ugly head time ans ago.

5: Love the optimism here, we all deserve happiness and to feel free and live life to the fullest.

6: Good to see the positivity here and I hope it lasts. Sometimes returning to a place can be bring back so many memories good and bad but we have to stay positive or Atleast try to.

7: There is s time of hope yet sadness here, I feel the want to become a better person as in less hurt and worrisome.

For the first time I am in complete control of my own mind, body and soul.
    ^^
    Absolutely love this.
    Well done N.

    Hello Naomi,

I think you should travel more often. This poem has travel of the physical and emotional kind all over it. The only difference is you can't get insurance on the latter.

    Great write.

    Take care,

    Michael x

Oh N! This is wonderful! So much light and hope and possibly in this write. I love that you took your holiday to really embrace all it had to offer. Sometimes we need that, recharge and gather strength without all the emotional baggage we tend to haul around with us. I'm just pleased as punch by this, I feel your light shining throughout, well done-
