Wilted Rose

by Savannah Hunter   Nov 25, 2016

Our love;
was like that of a bright red rose.
Encased within a jar;
glowing.
Strong and beautiful,
Our rose thrived within that jar for many months;
The glass in which encased it,
Unbreakable.
Or so it seemed.
With a string of events the glass jar was shaken;
Therefore falling to the ground,
Covering the ceramic floor in it's pieces.
And our rose was left untouched;
Wilting away with time,
Like that of an hourglass.
And within that time;
We frantically tried to pick up the pieces;
The sharp, jagged edges of the glass cutting deep into us.
No glue could ever put that glass jar back together.
And so without the protection of our jar;
The rose wilted.
Dying from air polluted with harsh words, subtle cries, and heartbreaking sobs.
In the end the rose was left to die,
Wilting away in the dark;
Where we left it,
Abandoning it to tend to the parts of ourselves that we had hurt trying to put it back together.
You'd said that nothing was ever beyond saving.
But you can't save a wilted rose;
For it is already too far gone.
Our wilted rose;
The fragility of it unbearable,
Died faster with every second I had left it there to die.
I'm sorry I couldn't save it.

      I thought you might like it. :) it's kind of the opposite of yours and when you read them back to back it's kind of both versions of this story and it's awesome.

    It did remind me of Beauty and the Beast... I love the whole story of the wilted rose... It's sad that it ended that way.

    Reading this poem reminded me of Walt Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
    The rose petals in the jar was the time that was left to make love blossom
    before it wilted. Yet in this write the love that blossomed was wilting unable
    to save the bond that flourished once before.

    Within the lines one can see the heartache and the desperate attempts
    been made to save love and the regret and sadness the writer experiences
    due to the death of love/rose. It makes a nice story and I liked the images
    which touched me through out this read.

      Hi.
      I'm glad you were able to understand this one, as it took me some time to figure out how to properly tell this one. This story was fragile, and hard to write and I didn't take writing it lightly. It was like taking the most vulnerable piece of me and putting it out there for everyone. Anyways.. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
