Little Fish

by shadow   Dec 11, 2016

A little dying fish,
floats farther from the shore.
Waves of water carrying it away,
until it falls down to the ocean floor.

The deeper the fish goes,
the blacker the water seems to get.
Currents pushing and pulling,
like some invisible net.

The fish doesn't know the kind of monsters,
that lie in the deepest parts.
The ocean holds many secrets,
at the center of its salty heart.

There are still miles of water to swim,
but the little dying fish is no more.
Though its life did not last long,
there's always another fish near the shore.

This is very heart-breaking...what a fate! And I love that this is a 'little' fish, to me it means innocence. This is life's journey...creatively captured by a journey of a little fish. Great job!

    Shadow,

This is a really well rhymed and fluent little piece of poetry, which is lovely to read as there simply isn't enough of it on this site - in my humble opinion!
I suppose that old saying 'there's plenty more fish in the ocean' could actually be applied here, although I have to admit to feeling some sympathy for this seemingly expendable little fish!

Take care and all the best,

    Ben
