Baby Just Be There

by Sean Dohr   Dec 17, 2016

She breathes "I love you," but needs distance too,
And with her eyes on you, you can't help but lose,
Your heart, your mind, your way with words,
You're hurt, you're blind, then it re-occurs.

She's scared of you and she's been through -
A hurt that's thrown her heart askew.
And all that she can ask of you,
Is to be patient and to tell the truth.

She wants to be held, while pushing away.
She wants no help, but she's helpless each day.
"I can fend for myself" is all that she'll say.
Then she spends the night drinking to make things okay.

Then you spend some time thinking, "Can I go on this way?"
But the thought is so fleeting, you throw it away.
Watch her finger tips bleed as she gnaws at the pain.
It's a nervous tick, but she's ticked all the same.

And it leaves you to wonder if the past is to blame
For the present, our present, to be currently strained.
And with each of my blunders, there is a slight scare,
But if you love me, I love you...baby just be there.
