My Family Trees

by rosey   Jan 30, 2017

All I see are empty trees
Where my family once stood tall.

All I see are empty trees
Where my blood did me wrong.

The ashes of my family's bones lie at the roots.
Edges of boney fingers,
That once were full of youth.

Deep cracks shown in their ribs
Where they carried all their pain,
Teeth shattered from those who muted them
Before they got to speak.

All I see are empty trees
Where my family took the fall.

The burnt hands of angry twine,
Choke each other in a hellish bind.
As they dance to a tune that's scarred in time,
They remember stealing the breath from mine.

All I see are empty trees
Where their souls sing this song.

A haunting fire of frightening hues
Carries the screams of my abused,
Embodies the heat of their tears long shed,
Embers bright
Against the Crimson rivers of the dead

All I see are empty trees
Where my family once stood stood tall.

All I see are empty trees
Where my blood did me wrong.

All I see are empty trees
Where my family took the fall.

All I see are empty trees
Where their souls sing this song.
