Up in the Clouds (a re submitted poem)

by PETER EDWARDS   Feb 20, 2017

Up in the Clouds...

Their spirits together, them both hand in hand, their minds drifted up to that magical land.
It is the place that all lovers know, it’s ‘up in the clouds’ where they all go.
Where promises are made, and love sworn so true, where happiness reigns and words ‘I love you.’
It’s the place that they went, just she and just he, a place of joy and sincerity.

Their journey began when they fell in Love, and fate whisked them away to that place up above.
He and she were there for a while, at peace with each other, always ‘warm smile.’
Contented and happy they were for that time, she said to him once ‘You’ll always be mine.’
Nothing it seemed could break that feeling, just a look at each other sent their pulses reeling.
A thousand promises there she made, told him ‘Never, ever, be afraid.’

When the end came on that cold winters day, he hadn’t noticed she’d been slipping away.
He’d reached out to embrace her, run his hands through her hair, but his hands embraced nothing, she just wasn’t there.
He’s still there today, that place in the clouds, his mind is so lost, calls her name out loud.
The love that they shared now dead on the floor, her promises all broken lie dead by the score.
He wants her so badly, but no one is there, just echoes abound, they’re no longer ‘a pair.’
His mind will search for all eternity, to find reasons why, it ended for she.
But Love knows no reason, can come or just go, only God himself really, will ever know..

Peter, I always love your writes. They are emotional and more or less always reduce me to tears and this was no different. I guess many people can relate.

The title says it all really. Up in the clouds, how we all wish we could be in the tranquil setting at some point or is it more like "oh your head sin the clouds" ? We'll soon find out when we read right?

1/ What a beautiful place this sounds like. I imagine all lovers living happily ever after, forgetting all their worries and hardship, forgetting all their wrong doings to each other and just enjoying every minute of every day together.

2/ Promises can be made but not meant to be broken though often they are... Why so i say this? I'm not sure but it's the first thing that popped into my head. To be with the one for all eternity is a wonderful feeling and one which we all should be able to have, no matter how long it takes. More fantastic imagery.

3/ This brought tears to my eyes and to lose the one you love is devastating but to lose them even when they're there is even more horrofic and I don't know which is the less of two evils.

    Take care, Em

Sir, I believe this is the first I have read from you and I have to say that it was a gripping from the first line, flow and word choice are spot on I'm so glad I stopped by.

    All the best
