What are you afraid of?

by Alex Penuelas   Feb 24, 2017

Darling,
Do not think
that I fear
Falling in love
With you.

My dear,
I love many things
In this life.

I love animals of all kinds,
I love my family and friends,
I love seeing sunsets on Sunday evenings,
Feeling the warmth of the sun
On my face.

And, I can say,
With a high degree
of confidence,
That I will fall in love
with you.

That I will cherish each
and every waking moment
With you,
Drunk in love with your eyes,
Your smile,
And all the pretty things
that make you You.

There is one thing, however,
That I do fear.

What I fear,
Is to be so deeply in love
And so deeply invested
In someone,
Only to realize that they
Do not feel the same
About me.

Truly, that is the way
To die while still breathing,
To walk around as a broken porcelain figure,
With all the pieces intact
But with the centerpiece missing.

And that is a feeling
That you can never truly
Recover from,
No matter how hard
You try.

The scariest thing is,
Is that you're never gonna know
If you're falling for the
Wrong person.

My dear,
That is what I'm afraid of.

    This stanza is exceptional.

A finely piece of prose/poetry telling the tale of that frightening phenomenon: unrequited love.

Take care and all the best,
