Jane
(Written at my window, on a blessed rainy morning.March 2015)
By Ziad Dib Jreige
From "The nightingale and his poems of dawn"
Now between these walls I sit
And the grey clouds outside
Break upon my heart and hit
My shore with a high tide
Through the window I look
And gaze at this scene
My heart flows as a brook
And runs to you my queen
This morning has indeed a way
In adorning all what’s here
A cool breeze with a shy ray
And a scent of you my dear
Your grin is a wish of mine
A wish ever strong and new
Strange how you can combine
The dusk with the morning dew
At my window so proud
I sit with a faint light
Your smiles with rain so loud
Echo with grace and might
Here I sit with my pen
Willing to start a flight
I am the luckiest of men
To you I fly and write
Forlorn in my own terrain
Stumbling with my thought
Wandering had I been in vain
With all the fears I fought
Until you gently came to me
And took over my pain
As a spring dancing bee
You came to me my Jane
I have been so lucky though
I lost that day my sought aim
When my eyes passed over you
And fought yours never tame
Yes my heart had been still
Until that day was shaken
And ever since with full will
From me has been taken
I lost it then and there
When you just spoke and smiled
You filled up the foul air
With fragrance nice and wild
I lost my heart somewhere!
Between your charming eyes
And your lips so fair
Glowing with your smiles
I wasn’t sure, somewhere
Between your lovely pace
And your affectionate hair
Hugging your tender face
How I long this rainy day
For your voice whispering near
For your words and their way
In erasing all my fear
How I long for your arm
Laying life upon my core
With a way full of charm
And a touch I adore
As flowers are confined to sun
And days are to the morning dew
As childhood is confined to fun
And love is to the plain true
Thus time is confined to run
And thus I am confined to you
Your eyes I see everywhere
Your voice I do hear
Your sparkles fill the air
Surround me as a sphere
Upon every virgin snow
On every sunny day
Your eyes bloom and flow
In an outright display
Between the kissing branches green
Of trees hugged by sun
Your lips with a smile so keen
Move and dance and run
And of your laughter so sweet
Sing the running streams
As they pass and bless and greet
And spread their happy beams
Let me flow a breeze
To cherish your long hair
And play and lift with ease
Its locks into the air
Let me cascade a rain
To rhyme your gentle pace
And wash away your pain
And caress your dear face
Let me land a yellow ray
On your soft fine skin
And kiss on a summer day
Your neck, cheeks, and chin
Let me be while you sleep
The night and its recess
To cover you through feelings deep
With my starry fancy dress
Then upon a sandy shore
With a splash gentle and sweet
Let me break more and more
A wave upon your feet
Thus I cannot be wrong
You are my affection fount
For you I sing an endless song
Of love with full amount
And more words than what I wrote
Remain in my deep heart
For you they call and quote
And to you they always part
