Our Hereafter

by Abed   Mar 12, 2017

One day, when all of this ends,
we will collect our bones,
flesh them with words, art and stardust,
then resurrect.

There will be no passengers to share
our salvation ship with,
no passengers to sing redemption songs with.

One day, all of this will end,
and we won't repeat the same old mistakes,
we won't restore the wreck that brought and killed us.
We will be the only souls alive.
Just you and I.
And we will name our hereafter
after the only thing rational
in this irrational life...
Love.

    Judging Comment:

Abed has blown PnQers off their feet so many times, and this is no let down. The diction and flow are gorgeous and the story that the author is telling captivates those who come across these words. So much generous emotion and lovely tone oozes from every line of this beautiful piece. Even after reading this a handful of times, all that came to mind at the end was another way to call this beautiful. With hope and love and complete mastery of expressing the profound, Abed continues to amaze his PnQ home.
