Death Bell Tolls

by MariAnn C.   Mar 22, 2017

Death bell dings one
And another second of life
Run screaming into the night
The furies weep while the sirens sing

Another chime of the death bell
Skin dries and turns to ash
Another moment of sanity gone
Surely as the fall of Empires

Death shadow lurks around the corner
Death is letting go to space eternal
Sounds like a dream come true

Death bell strikes again
With dirt upon your face
Enjoy eternity

Enjoyed this one, could you explain why you chose the image of the furies weeping in line 4? It's not an emotion I typically associate with them...

I chose that line because it is a uncommon sight. The furies were described as goddesses of vengeance or possibly the ghosts of murdered people. While sirens were those who used singing to lure sailors to their demise. To me it came off as kind of a oxymoron and made sense. So in essence the line is a contradiction of their characteristics but they are both embracing death.
