On Westminster Bridge

by Mark Rawlins   Mar 24, 2017

But Earth has not anything .......
or anyone
or anything.
For we have not anything,
or anywhere
to hide

So take me to the bridge,
to touch me with its majesty.
Take me to the bridge,
across the river deep and wide.

Yes, take me to the bridge,
and show me all humanity.
Take me to the bridge,
where I have laughed and cried.

Please, take me to the bridge,
for the sake of my insanity.
Take me to the bridge,
to the bridge where love has died.

For Earth has not anything ........
or anyone
or anything.
Now we have not anything,
or anywhere
to hide.

Quite a powerful poem in view of the terrorist attack in London. Sometimes repetition can make or break a poem, I feel in this instant it has added immensely to flow and as somebody has already expressed the sentiment you are conveying. So sad that humanity has nowhere to hide from attacks such as this. Great title, I like the subtle changes to the last stanza which almost mirrors the first stanza, adding depth. Well written and thought provoking.

Nice write Mark, nice flow and sentiment. This site is strangely quiet after the latest terrorist incident,

    Simply yet effective piece.
